Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church

THE SINGLES GROUP

We are a group of people who are single (for whatever reason) who meet once a month for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Sometime we have serious discussions, sometimes just general chat. Whatever subjects are talked about there is generallY a good deal of noise and plenty of laughter during the evening. We all take it in turns to host the evening, which is generally the first Friday in the month (though this can be subject to change, so you need to read the church notices). Those of us who drive are always willing to give lifts to those who can't.

Apart from our regular monthly meetings we also organise outings. Last year (2005) we had a skittles evening (with a ploughman's supper), an evening barbecue (despite the drizzle we still cooked on a barbecue) and a Sunday afternoon canal trip (with optional cream tea). Most of our outings include food somewhere. We have had Sunday lunchtime picnics in a variety of locations from Bradford-on-Avon to the Brecon Beacons, occasional trips to the theatre to an afternoon performance and, of course, always a Christmas meal somewhere locally.

We have noticed that while several men are always willing to join us for our outings they don't come to our evening meetings – it seems they cannot cope with our wide-ranging topics of discussion.

We are a very friendly and welcoming group and are always pleased for new people to join us; so if you are single and not doing anything on the first Friday of a month, please come and join us, contact Sheila Cox or Mary Cox.
