Chipping Sodbury Baptist ChurchWe have listed on this page some of the questions we are frequently asked. Just click on the question to see the answer. We hope you will find the answer to your questions here, if not please email the Church Office and they will do their best to answer you. What to wear?Where to sit?Who will I meet? What to expect? What we believeIs it just Sundays? What is the traditional service? What to wear?Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, formal or informal. We accept people as they are. It is more important to us that you come and find out for yourself what we are like. Go to topWhere to sit?Sit wherever you like. Occasionally some seats will be reserved at the front for special services but these will be marked accordingly. Go to topWho will I meet? There will be approximately 200 people of all ages in the morning service, and around 30/40 in the evening. We are a friendly church so don't be surprised if somebody speaks to you. What to expect? We start our morning meeting at 10.30 am with a few minutes of notices to keep the regular attenders informed of diary dates, etc. Then for about 20 minutes we worship by singing hymns or songs, having prayers and sometimes a children's spot. The children then leave us and go to their own worship groups. We run a crèche where parents can take their little ones if they wish, but we are happy for them to stay and contribute in their own way to the service. We then have a reading from the Bible and the minister will give a talk on the Bible passage that is relevant and meaningful to our modern lives. We finish our meeting around midday and have tea or coffee in the Church Hall. The evening service starts at 6.30 pm and follows a similar pattern as the morning (except that there are usually no children). The evening service is often more informal than the morning, and it finishes around about 7.45 pm. There are no refreshments after the evening service, but people often hang around for some time chatting to each other. Occasionally we have healing services where people are prayed for and ministered to. If the service includes Holy Communion all those who love Jesus and want to follow him are welcome to participate. If you do not feel able to take part, that is fine. Our aim is that whether you are just looking into Christianity for the first time or have been a Christian for many years you will be challenged and inspired by the service. We hope that everyone will draw closer to God. Go to topWhat we believeWe are a Christian church and believe that God wants to have a relationship with us. We believe that this relationship is possible because of Jesus (God's only Son) who invites us to follow him. We have friendly relationships with other local churches from both traditional and modern backgrounds. If you are interested in exploring faith then please come along on a Sunday or contact the Church Office to ask for a free booklet. If you don't have a Bible we will happily provide one (If English isn't your first language we would love to make a gift to you of a Bible in your own language.) Go to topIs it just Sundays?God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to him. We're not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we desire to make a positive difference in everything we do. To further encourage us we have midweek groups, meeting in people's homes. These small groups are a great way to get to know others in the church and to encourage each other in our everyday lives. If you are just looking into Christianity you are welcome to come along to a small group near you. Go to topWhat is the Traditional Service? If you enjoy a shorter conventional service with hymns that have stood the test of time and are played on the organ or piano, then the Traditional Service is for you. There is the added bonus of refreshments in the Church Hall after the service. |
